- Prepared by Senate Research -

HCS/HB 274 - This act allows school districts to be exempt from making up days of school that were lost or cancelled due to inclement weather after November 20, 2000 and during the 2000- 2001 school year. The mandatory requirement of scheduling two- thirds of missed school days from the previous year is waived for the 2001-2002 school year.

The act protects a school district from loss of state aid due to low attendance if the district held class for a full school day during the 2000-01 school year and after November 20, 2000, on a day in which at least one adjoining school district or at least one other district headquartered in the same county cancelled classes due to inclement weather. A district may claim this protection for no more than five school days during the 2000-01 school year.
